3/22/10-Diamond Head
So I know this is a day late, but I recently had the idea to blog about my experiences hiking and visiting places around Oahu that make me say, "I'm glad to live on Oahu". So yesterday I went hiking with my good friend Lindsey, who absolutely hates me for dragging her with me. I barely woke up in time to get dressed, pack my bags with 2 water bottles, 5 chewy bars, camera, money, and my phone. We approached the trail already dripping in sweat due to the walk all the way up there. Unfortunately you have to pay a dollar fee for walk ins. We expected to take around 2 hours to finish the total hike but it ended up taking us about 2 hours and 45 minutes. During the hike we managed to fall, scream, take beautiful pictures, and I got a chance to speak Japanese! On the way to the top there are many resting spots and chances to take pictures, one stop I got to use my Japanese to ask someone to take our picture. I truly felt accomplished being able to communicate with a tourist. Also during the hike there's a spiral staircase that made me feel claustrophobic, and there's also a 100 stair hike. I ended up stopping half way to sit and rest. Once we got to the top we took multiple pictures and even saw a whale! I felt relieved to finally finish the hike, but then I realized we had to go back down! Going back down was more enjoyable and not as hot, when we reached the bottom I bought shave ice, which was delicious!
